Aware of the importance of maintaining sustainable tourism development, and assuming the principles specifically adopted in the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism, Quinta do Barrieiro is committed to carrying out a sustainable management of its activities, through the adoption of commitments aimed at preventing, eliminate or reduce the impact of our facilities and activities, both internal and external, as well as optimize the sustainability of the establishment by improving its behavior towards the environment.
For this purpose, Quinta do Barrieiro has adopted a responsible tourism policy, whereby it undertakes to comply with the requirements established in the Biosphere Hotel, which includes, among other things, the legal requirements that regulate the effects generated by the tourist activity.
Thus, Quinta do Barrieiro undertakes to motivate and train our employees through training and awareness actions on the principles of Responsible Tourism, to promote good environmental practices and to participate in external activities, and to inform both internally and externally about the advances and environmental actions of the company.
We are also committed to fighting sexual exploitation, or any other form of commercial exploitation and harassment, in particular of children, adolescents, women and minorities. We also include a commitment to adopt accessibility measures for people with disabilities (sensory, physical, intellectual and mental).
One of our main objectives is to improve sustainable management, assuming the commitments of continuous improvement in all areas of sustainability: social, economic and environmental, as well as customer satisfaction.
We promote the separation of waste. Guests can make the separation and placement in the intended containers.
We reduced the use of plastic packaging for breakfast and adopted glass containers for placing food. In this way, we reduced the purchase of small packages and consequently the consumption of plastic and paper.
We give priority to placing native plants in our green spaces, as is the case with chestnut and strawberry trees recently planted.
We have as a priority the reduction of water consumption and for that we preferentially use drip irrigation and flow reducers in toilets with stopping the discharge with double click and faucets for taps.
We prefer to use LED lighting both outside and inside and motion detectors for better energy efficiency.
We prefer contact with local partners for a better development of the local economy and our region as a tourist destination.
We have developed other actions such as the separation of caps or dosing containers for shower gel and detergent to reduce the use of small size packaging.
